Best Claude Code skills, by use case

A short list, deliberately. These are the skills we'd install on a fresh machine — each verified working, each linked to its source. Last reviewed July 2026.

Test-driven development

test-driven-development (Superpowers) — Enforces RED-GREEN-REFACTOR instead of describing it. The single most-referenced community skill, and the fastest way to feel what a good skill does.

Debugging

systematic-debugging (Superpowers) — Four-phase root-cause analysis that stops the agent from patching symptoms. Pairs naturally with the TDD skill.

Writing that doesn't read like AI

Humanizer — Single-purpose: strips the em-dash addiction, hedging, and bullet-point compulsion from AI-drafted text. 27k+ stars for a reason.

Office documents

docx / pdf / pptx / xlsx (Anthropic) — The production skills behind Claude's own file features, source-available. If you generate Word docs, decks, or spreadsheets, these are the reference implementations.

Planning multi-step work

writing-plans + executing-plans (Superpowers) — Makes the agent produce a reviewable plan before touching code, then execute it stepwise. The pair is the backbone of Superpowers' methodology.

Cloudflare platform work

wrangler + workers-best-practices (Cloudflare) — Official, retrieval-first (fetches current docs instead of trusting training data), and honest about how fast CLI flags go stale. The model vendor skill.

How we pick

Three filters: the skill is used by its own author (not portfolio-ware), it changes agent behavior observably on a real task, and its repo is maintained. Star counts inform but don't decide — several 100k-star collections contain filler alongside gems, which is why this page names individual skills, not repos.

Want the full landscape instead of the shortlist? The directory tracks every collection we rate, and every entry has a copy-paste install prompt — or read how to install skills first.
